It is that time of year again! The Great British Bake Off is BACK!
I am a massive fan of the show and have even joined a ‘Bake Off’ Fantasy league team in which a group of us compete against other teams and each other to guess which contestants will do well and which will throw their cake out of the pan. This week I thought Lee would be Star Baker so clearly not a great start, as he was the first one evicted from the show.
This year I have decided to take my love of the show one step further and Bake Along with the contestants.
Week 1 was cake week and contestants were asked to make their own twist on a basic drizzle cake.
I used Mary Berry’s Lemon Drizzle Recipe but I added poppy seeds and a lemon icing.
In true Great British Bake Off style things didn’t go that smoothly.
Firstly, my scales stopped working so I had to guesstimate the weight of the ingredients.
I also forgot to add the poppy seeds so had to add them after it had been in the oven for 5 mins (not ideal!)
I am pretty sure that Paul Hollywood be unimpressed with the slightly wonky shape.
I made the icing by simply adding some lemon juice to icing sugar until I got a nice drizzle consistency.
Mary Berrys recipe makes a fabulously light sponge, which is melt in the mouth yummy and no soggy bottom in sight!
It definitely passed the taste test!
The next episode is biscuit week!
