There have been mixed emotions in the Hooked Household over the last few weeks. Minty is overjoyed that she is FINALLY starting school. She takes the fact that she is second born and therefore Twinkle gets to do all the fun stuff first as a personal insult and could not be more delighted she gets to take the big step to big school next month. The only thing tarnishing this experience for her is that Twinkle didn’t wait in reception for her to catch up.
I, on the other hand have found the prospect of being a mother with two school age children far more difficult to cope with. Most mothers I have spoken to tell me it gets easier with the second, but I haven’t found this. With Twinkle I embraced all of the new developmental stages. They were exciting and new, I had no idea what to expect but I knew that she would work her way through these individual milestones until adulthood. However, I kind of resent having to hand Minty over to the school system as well….
My anguish is all irrelevant however she is ready and raring to go. Without question the thing she is most excited about is the uniform as far as she is concerned a uniform makes her a real life big girl (for those of you who follow me on a regular basis will know this is her main goal in life).
So this week with an aching heart and Captain Hook’s aching wallet, I purchased not one but two new school uniforms, complete with PE kits, book bags, shoes, shirts, cardigans, pinafores, pants, socks and water bottles.
Twinkle must have been through 10 water bottles in her first year at school in the hunt for the elusive non leaking bottle, this year I have found these ridiculously cute half sized flasks at Chickadee. They have the extra security of an internal button and a screw on lid which doubles as a cup.
Both my girls have Hypermobility Syndrome which means they get tire easily, their hands get tired when writing, they can dislocate their joints more easily and as such are more cautious when running and jumping. When Twinkle started school I was really worried about how she would cope and gave the teacher a long list of things she might struggle with. She then made me look like a great big crazy lady by proving me wrong in pretty much every area and therefore I am trying to be far less neurotic this time around (trying…)
I am however very picky about which school shoes to place on their wobbly little feet. I always buy the children’s shoes from Pediped who have been awarded the American Podiatric Medical Association Seal of Acceptance for creating shoes that promote healthy foot development. They have supportive arches and are made from super soft leather which makes them so comfortable. They also come in a wide range of cute designs.
The children’s uniform came from George, it is really good value and the pinafores Twinkle wore last year still look like new. The cardigans have lovely detailing on the pockets and don’t bobble.
If Minty is anything like her sister, she will attempt to lose every item of clothing during her first few weeks at school, so I was over the moon when Stickerscape asked me to try out their truly beautiful name labels. They come in a fabulous range of designs but after much deliberation Minty wanted the Rabbits. They come in both Stick on and Iron on packs or you can buy a mixed pack.
Aren’t they gorgeous?
Stickerscape are a small British business who specialise in high quality Wall Stickers. They have recently added these name labels to their stunning range. They work with talented designers such as Emma Vallis and currently have a lovely new range of chalk wall stickers and a selection of preschool characters such as In the Night Garden.
I was really impressed with the high quality feel and presentation of Minty’s name labels. The shades of pink in the labels Minty chose looks really elegant. There were more than enough to label her entire school uniform and equipment with extras for the replacements I will need throughout the year.
The sticker labels are strong and durable and perfect for book bags, shoes, water bottles, notebooks and lunch boxes and the iron on labels are strong enough to go through washing machine every week. Gone are the days of parents having to sew labels into uniform for hours. It took me less than 30mins to label her entire uniform and that is with Minty helping which probably added an extra ten minutes!
Stickerscape have kindly offered a pack of either the iron on or stick on personalised name labels, in the design of your choice, as a giveaway to one of you lucky lot (Terms and Conditions below). In order to enter: Subscribe to my blog and comment below telling me about your favourite school lunch box when you were in school. Mine was a Yellow and Red Thunderbirds box with matching flask. I have a terrible memory and don’t remember having one with a character on it. When I was older it was just a clear plastic box with a white lid. Anything before age 14ish and there’s no way I can remember.
Good luck with the giveaway. If you haven’t already do subscribe to the blog to be included in the draw. X

My favourite was a ‘Care Bears’ pink lunchbox. Loved it! 🙂
Ahhh Megan, the care bears were fab! Good Luck! x
Mine was a My Little Pony one, the traditional 80’s style, not the new manga styled version that my daughter watches! I’ve bought her a yumbox for school lunches, she’s not much of a sandwich person so I thought bento style would be perfect for her. These stickers would be brilliant to brighten it up a bit.
The new MLP’s are a bit terrifying in my opinion, I watched one the other day with vampire ponies in it! I like the sweet 80’s version much more. The yum boxes are lovely. Good luck for the giveaway don’t forget to subscribe to the blog if you haven’t already to be entered in the draw. x
I can’t remember what was on mine – though I can remember the smell of the plastic! When I was older I bought myself a bento box with red flowers on. 🙂

I never had a lunch box, I lived so close to school I used to go home for lunch. My mum used to pop her head out of the door at the right time and watch me walk back home and then after lunch she would watch me walk back to school again. All the children seem to arrive at school by car these days
My children are lucky enough to live walking distance from school so we all walk there and back but I agree there always seems to be a lot of cars arriving every morning considering it has such a small catchment area! Good luck for the giveaway. X

My Care Bears one x
Big box with loads of room
Haha, as a nan responsible for my granddaughter starting school this year The Dark Ages never had lunchboxes- it was eat whatever you’re given at lunchtime and a bottle of milk at playtime- no choices, no packed lunches so I’ll move to my daughters lunchbox which was Care Bears, the first I bought her and the one she kept all through primary school. Everything in her life had to be Care Bears..
Great prize. Practical, as children do tend to need assistance in locating their belonging when in a group situation :- Such as Nursery, School, etc.
I just to have a light blue lunch box with a big sticker of Alf on it, I loved it!
Has the winner been selected yet?
Yes I have announced the winner on my most recent post and also on my Twitter and Facebook page and notified the winner by email. 💖
