Yesterday the sun shone. I took the children for a walk without a coat on…it is official, summer is on its way.
Every year, as we approach warmer weather (I live in the UK, so obviously this is all relative) I like to picture myself sat in the garden sipping something pink out of a pretty glass, whilst watching the children playing happily together. In this beautiful dream no children utter words like ‘mummy the baby has eaten two slugs….’ (you would have thought they might have mentioned something after one…right?) or ‘Minty sat in fox poo…’ (the dreaded words no mother wants to hear!).
So yesterday, I enjoyed a rare child free day, dreaming about summer and crocheting these little cuties.
I love the bright colours, I think they look like little summer boaters.
They are so easy and quick to make, here is the pattern, using UK Crochet Terms.
I used Lion Brand Bonbon’s – Nature in 100% cotton and a 2.5mm hook.
12 tr in the 3rd ch from the hook.
sl into first tr (not the top of the 2ch). (12)
2tr into each tr.
sl into first tr.(24)
*tr in 1st tr, 2tr in 2nd tr* repeat **12 times
sl into first tr. (36)
*tr in 1st 2 tr’s, 2tr in 3rd tr* repeat ** 12 times
sl into first tr. (48)
*tr in 1st 3 tr’s, 2tr in 4th tr* repeat ** 12 times (56)
sl into first tr. (56)
ch4, tr in the same stitch, skip the next stitch, *tr, ch2, tr in the same stitch, skip 1 tr* Repeat ** until you have completed the full circle. Sl and finish.
To make the decoration on the coaster which is of course optional.
Take the thread of your choice. Push the hook between two stitches and pull loop of thread through. Push the hook between the next two stitches and pull through another loop (you will have two loops on your hook now). Pull the second loop through the first loop. Repeat.
Once you have got the last loop on the hook cut the thread at the back leaving about 1ocm of thread. Using an embroidery needle, sew the last loop down with a tiny stitch. finish and sew in the loose thread.
