This week I have been putting together a pattern for a multi purpose ‘Tiny Tub’. It took me a while to get the proportions right but I really love them.
Here is the pattern. They are so quick to hook together, about 20 mins a pop, once you get the hang of them.
Dc – Double Crochet (single crochet in the US)
Sl – Slip stitch
Ch – Chain stitch
I found that an acrylic such as Stylecraft Special DK Yarn works best for this project, anything too thin or soft might make the edges droop a little, but you can over come this by doubling the yarn if necessary. It uses a tiny amount of yarn so great for using up left over stash.
I used a 2.5mm hook to make a nice tight finish to the stitches.
R1 – Dc 6 into the second Ch from the hook (the first one you made), Sl into first Dc, Ch 1 (6)
R2 – 2 Dc in each of the 6 Dcs, Sl into first Dc (not the ch stitch), ch 1 (12)
R3 – *Dc in first Dc from R2, 2 Dc in second Dc from R2* repeat ** 5 more times, Sl in first Dc, Ch 1 (18)
R4 – *Dc in the first 2 Dc from R3, 2 Dc in the next stitch* repeat**5 more times, Sl in first Dc, Ch 1 (24)
R5 – *Dc in the first 3 Dc from R3, 2 Dc in the next stitch* repeat**5 more times, Sl in first Dc, Ch 1 (30)
R6 – *Dc in the first 4 Dc from R3, 2 Dc in the next stitch* repeat**5 more times, Sl in first DC, (36)
Continue the rest of this pattern working in a round so no need to Sl at the end of each complete circle. It may be useful to place a stitch marker here so you know when you have completed each circle.
Dc in each stitch for the next 5 complete rotations. (36)
Dc in the next 7 Dcs, Ch 9, skip the next 7 Dcs and Dc in the next 11 Dc’s, Ch 9, skip the next 7 Dcs, Dc in the next 4 stitches. (36)
Dc in the next 7 DCs, dc 9 in the handle space, dc in the next 11 Dcs, Dc 9 in the handle space. Dc in the next 4 Dcs. (36)
Dc in the next 36 dcs and the Sl into next Dc (36)
These little tubs are so versatile and with Mother’s day around the corner would be a lovely container for some mini treats. If you made a taller one, they would be a lovely bottle holder for a small bottle of perfume or bath bubbles.
They are the perfect size for nail varnish and make a present look bright, cheerful and personal. I know you aren’t looking at the tub in this photo, you are wondering where I got those gorgeous nail varnishes from…am I right? If so, I got them here, they are super cheap and make really cute presents and come in loads of different colours.
These tubs are also great accessories for easter. You could hide eggs or chicks in them for the children/grandchildren to find.
I am going to use mine mainly for keeping the hundreds of ‘bits’ that my children acquire off the floor.
Hairclips and bobbles…….
Twinkle and Minty LOVE Shopkins and they fit perfectly into this little tubs. I really love this rainbow wool which I bought here.
….and lastly but not least they make perfect little companions to an evening of craft, so you don’t loose all the bits down the side of the sofa…
Minty, helpfully tried out the tub with the eggs in and confirms that they work ‘just fine!’
