I was organising some blog posts today and suddenly realised how much I talk about the weather! I can’t help it, I am British after all…
As an English Rose I wither in the heat and this weekend it has been hot!!! Two weeks ago it snowed! I am not a big fan of the snow either…. Or the rain (mostly due to the fact I have slightly curly hair and a fringe….)
My garden however has loved the feeling of a bit of warm mud between the toes and has suddenly started to ‘do stuff’. I am not naturally green fingered, not through lack of trying…. I have killed many lovely plants in the pursuit of a green garden…. But this year everything has started to grow!
For example this apple tree was only a tiny stick when I planted it at the beginning of the year. It is a variety called Tickled Pink, it produces red apples with red flesh which apparently taste a bit like cherries as you can see they also have deep red/violet flowers….
Minty sprinkled glitter into the hole before we planted it, in the hope it would grow magic apples. It reminds me of one of my favourite books ‘Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen’.This clematis has big buds ready to burst. I can’t actually remember if this is the red one or the white one, so it will just have to be a surprise!
I know this is technically not a craft based post but somehow growing and keep alive plants (as well as children) seems incredibly crafty!
If any of you have any suggestions for culling slugs and snails without poisoning small people/passing pets, I would be really grateful!
