Welcome to my new Series ‘What’s On My Shelf’. I have a lot (I mean it), a lot of craft related books. I have been packing for the move and I uncovered some really loved and well used ones and I thought I would share a few of my favourite crochet books with you. I will share some others over the next few weeks.
The 4 books I am sharing with you today, are some of the first crochet books I bought when I taught myself to crochet 8 years ago. If you follow me, you may remember that I taught myself to crochet when I was expecting my first baby. I had that ‘new mum to be’ terror that she was going to be born, turn to me and say ‘so what have you done with your life so far?’…. and it TERRIFIED me! So I rationally (for a heavily pregnant women) thought maybe if I teach myself to crochet, this baby will know I am in fact a real life grown up and not just playing house. I don’t think it worked, but I fell in love with the craft and I think some of it must have rubbed off in the womb as Twinkle loves to crochet as well.
If you crochet and haven’t yet been introduced to Debbie Stoller, you need this book! Written in the author’s cheeky style it is full of inspirational tips and techniques. With fabulous modern designs from Pom Pom Capelet to an Anarchy Irony Hat. Other books by this author include:
This encyclopedia of crochet stitches and techniques was the first crochet book I ever bought and is so easy to follow. It shows how to form stitches with photographs, illustrations and symbol charts. If you are struggling to get your head around a tricky stitch, or the crochet terminology (which can sometimes feel like a language of its own) then this is a perfect book for you. It is currently great value because they have released a newer addition.
Nicki Trench is a crochet teacher and author with over 20 years experience. She has written a lot of books and I really love this little book with 35 adorable and traditional projects for the home. I particularly love her crocheted Pavlova which is definitely on my list of things to make. Other books by this author include:
This book is filled to the brim with gorgeous crochet flower and leaf patterns. Suzann Thompson also shows how to use these flowers to embellish clothes and other household items. The instructions are really clear and easy to follow. I have used these patterns to decorate gifts and headbands for the children. Other books by this author include:
I have a lovely crochet book to GIVEAWAY, to help you build your own craft library, or if you are like me, to add to the stash hidden under the bed. Boho Baby Crochet by Dedri Uys. This book has some truly lovely and colourful crochet patterns for babies aged up to 18 months.
